Worship 101: Service with a Smile

BACK to Worship Home

MONDAY

The message of the Gospel is a message of LOVE. The way God expresses His love is by serving. Jesus did not come to be served but rather to serve us; and serve us He did by taking God’s wrath in our place! Read carefully Matthew 20:25-28. How will you become the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven? What did Jesus come into the world to do? Write Mark 10:45 on an index card and memorize it. Get together with a brother/sister and pray for a servant’s attitude in all you do.

TUESDAY

In order to be effective servants, we need to have an attitude that is pleasing to God.  Living to please the Lord is the first step in learning to serve Him, and therefore, serve each other. Read Col.3:23-24 and Eph. 6:7-8. When you do anything, who is it that you should be doing it for? How should you serve or work? Write Col. 3:23-24 on an index card and memorize it. When you wake up each day, pray that you may please the Lord in all that you do. Renew your mind with the Word and become a servant. Call a brother/sister who needs you to serve them and see how you can fill their needs.

WEDNESDAY

In order to be effective servants for God, certain attitudes need to be present in ourselves. Humility and selflessness need to pervade our minds and thoughts. Read Phil. 2:3-8. Whom should you consider as better than yourself? Whose interests should you protect? Whose attitude should you have? What is that attitude? Write Phil. 2:14-15 on an index card and memorize it. Believe that you can make a difference in this crooked and perverse generation. Get together with a brother/sister and pray to make a difference at your workplace to the glory of God. Do something for someone at your workplace/school who doesn’t get along with you. Show them love by what you do and believe that the Lord is using you.

THURSDAY

As you serve the Lord through serving others an attitude to watch out for is that of thinking you deserve a reward for what you are doing. Remember that the Lord is watching over you and it is God that rewards whatever you do in secret. Read Luke 17:7-10. As Christ’s servant, when you have done everything you were told to do, what should be your attitude? Write Galatians 1:10 on an index card and memorize it. Convince yourself of these words and realize that whatever you do will be seen by the Lord. Glorify Him! make yourself available to serve on a committee in one of the ministries in the church. Tell a brother/sister who usually heads a committee that you want to serve the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.

FRIDAY

As you realized from Wednesday’s quiet time, humility precedes service. Because our Lord is humble (look up this word in a good dictionary) He has no problems with serving us. To serve someone is a privilege, not a chore. Worldly greatness is associated with being served.  Godly greatness is associated with serving others at your expense. Read John 13:12-17. What was Jesus trying to teach His disciples by washing their feet? How have you “washed” other people’s feet? What attitudes have prevented you from freely giving yourself to serve your spouse, co-worker, family member, friend, brother/sister, children?
